A Revival

Is it okay if I post something on the internet that’s not catered for an algorithm or SEO? Isn’t it strange that I felt the need to ask? I remember a time when I saw the internet as an endearing escape from life - it was before news spread that “Blogging is dead!” It was before CEOs verbally dictated how users should interact with their platforms. It was before I turned my love for photography into a career. This could just be a case of nostalgia, but some moods are worth reviving.

Welcome to my blog.

It’s barely been two months, yet the year 2026 is already unravelling in ways that I never imagined. The most incredible moments involved working with Hollywood actors, documenting the moment that a panicked bride transformed into a joyful wife, and picturing a soon to be bride cry at the first sight of her engagement ring. Between those moments were the experiences that shook my reality.

Everything flipped! The days that I thought would be lackluster were thoughtfully crafted, and beautiful. I was convinced that the sun showed up in its glory just so that everything would fall perfectly into place. One of those days was spent at the Hut Little Jumby, Angitua - a newly opened off-the-mainland restaurant. We reluctantly had to change our dinner reservation to a lunch date due to work. Yet, it was easily the best restaurant visit that I’ve had in a while.

On the flip side, the days that I was excited about filled me with dread. I felt like an invisible cog. My role was valuable but I was treated with neglect. At this point, I struggled to differentiate strangers from allies. The most poignant experience was when I switched roles from being a camera operator to a talent on a video set. The party environment was perfect and everyone was either having a good time or did a damn good job at acting as if they were for the cameras. I however, struggled to put on a show. The happiness and confidence that I arrived with dwindled in the faces of the unimpressed cameramen who weren’t shy about expressing their feelings. Their unscripted request was set and they weren't willing to change it for my comfort. My mood dipped once I walked away from the cameras and it was obvious that this first experience would be my last.

This year, I have to admit that I lost myself somewhere along my journey into adulthood and entrepreneurship because being compliant felt like the best way to build long-lasting networks. Surprise! It wasn’t.

Last year, after covering an International Women’s Day presentation, the speaker told me to find my genius because it won’t look like everyone else’s. I think that it is time that i followed her advice. This cog needs to pivot. There's a machine somewhere in this world that I'm more suited for.

What activities did you drop but would you like to get back to this year?
